9th Army Air Force

The 9th Air Force was first constituted 21 August 1941 and designated as such in April 1942. Initially in Egypt it commanded heavy and medium bomber and fighter groups. Moving to England in October 1943 it became more of a tactical command containing medium bombers, fighters and troop carrier groups.
